Documents

What you'll need

  • Your valid learning licence
  • Application form for the driving licence (Form 4)
  • Proof of age and proof of address
  • Recent passport-size photographs
  • Medical certificate (Form 1A) if you're over 40 or applying for a transport class
  • A vehicle of the correct class for the test — we provide ours

If you've trained with us, most of this is already prepared. Turning up to the test in an unfamiliar car is one of the most avoidable reasons people fail.

Test day

What the driving test involves

The exact pattern varies by test track, but it generally comes down to the same handful of things.

Vehicle control

Smooth starting, stopping and gear changes without stalling or jerking.

The track

Typically an 8-track or H-pattern for cars, a figure-8 for two-wheelers.

Reversing and parking

Controlled reversing within markers, without touching them.

Observation

Mirrors, indicators, and looking where you're actually going. Examiners notice this more than people expect.

We run a full mock test first

Same pattern, same car, before the real thing. You'll know exactly what's coming — which removes most of the nerves that cause avoidable mistakes.

Avoid this

Why people fail the driving test

Stalling on the incline

Clutch control on a hill start is where nerves show up first. It's very drillable.

Touching a marker on the 8

Usually caused by going too fast. The track rewards slow and steady.

Forgetting mirrors and indicators

Easy to do under pressure, and examiners are specifically watching for it.

An unfamiliar vehicle

Borrowing a car you've never driven for the test is a genuinely bad idea.

FAQ

Permanent licence questions

After 30 days from the date your learning licence was issued, and before it expires at six months. That window is deliberately designed to give you a month of practice — use it.

Yes — students who train with us take the test in the same car they've been learning in. It makes a real difference on the day.

You can retake the test after a short waiting period, with a government re-test fee. We'll go through exactly what went wrong, give you targeted practice on that point, and rebook the slot for you.

A private (non-transport) driving licence is typically valid for 20 years or until you turn 50, whichever comes first. After that it's renewed for shorter periods. We handle renewals too.

Yes, and it's more common than you'd think. You'll still need a learning licence first, then the 30-day wait, then the test. A short refresher course usually gets experienced-but-unlicensed drivers through the test pattern comfortably.
